Not My Fault! A RINO Senator Pushes Back Against AFL-CIO's 'False Claims' Over Shutdown

Kelly Ayotte

When Congress was shutdown several weeks ago, unions–who rarely seem to get bothered with things like the truth–tried to paint Republicans across-the-board with a rather broad brush.
This isn’t too sitting well with New Hampshire’s Sen. Kelly Ayotte’s [R] Comms. Dirctor:

Although Sen. Ayotte can find issues where she agrees and disagrees with the AFL-CIO, she won’t stand for the organization misrepresenting the facts about her record.
Contrary to false claims made in a recent opinion piece from the AFL-CIO in the Portsmouth Herald (“Politicians should focus on working families,” Nov. 27), Sen. Ayotte opposed the government shutdown from the start and worked across party lines to reopen the government. In fact, your readers may recall that the Herald published an opinion piece co-authored by Sen. Ayotte and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in which they called for an end to the shutdown — as well as a long-term deficit reduction plan.
During the shutdown, Sen. Ayotte made efforts to blunt its impact on New Hampshire families and small-business owners. For example, she worked to protect workers at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and service members in the National Guard from lost pay and furloughs. And she called on the Obama administration to reverse its decision to temporarily prevent privately run campgrounds from operating in the White Mountain National Forest.
