[WATCH] New York's 'discriminatory' fast-food wage hike to $15 gets destroyed in appeals hearing

“You have a process that was flawed from its inception…”

On Thursday, a hearing was held over New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s forcing of the fast-food industry to increase the wages it pays to $15.
“You have a process that was flawed from its inception, because it ultimately came down to focusing on a silver of a slice of a subset of a segment of an industry — and you can’t do that as a matter of the law,” said Randy Mastro who, according to the Albany Times Union, was representing the National Restaurant Association.
Mastro noted how Gov. Cuomo’s hand-picked “wage board” consisted of a government bureacrat, a representative from the SEIU, and the sole business representative on the wage board—a fashion executive—had already moved his business to Kentucky to avoid paying higher wages.
Mastro argued that, as no one on the wage board actually works in the fast-food industry, the fact that the proposed wage hikes only impact restaurants with more than 30 employees, they are “inherently unfair and discriminatory.”
