New York City's Mayor Lawyers Up

While insisting that “everything we’ve done is legally appropriate,” New York City’s scandal-plagued mayor Bill De Blasio has decided that he needs not just one law firm on retainer, but two separate law firms, according to

Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration has hired two law firms to help the city with multiple ongoing federal investigations into the mayor’s fundraising activities.

The mayor is facing investigations including whether his unsuccessful bid to bring the state Senate under Democratic control in 2014 as well as fundraising efforts for the Campaign for One New York, a nonprofit to advance the mayor’s agenda, violated campaign finance and election laws.

Apparently, with subpoenas being thrown around like confetti in Times Square on New Year’s Eve over what has been described as “willful and flagrant” violations of campaign finance laws, the mayor feels that he now needs two law firms to make doubly sure that everything he’s done was “legally appropriate” and that it stays that way.
